Food Stamp Challenge:my thoughts

This was a good experiment. We ended the week with $40.24 left out of $156.76 budget. Could I have done better: yes. I just did a mega shopping trip 2 days before I signed up for this. I stayed out of what I had just bought, minus frozen veggies and the turkey we had to eat because the freezer went out.
A few weeks before this, I read an article in the Washington Post about the high cost of being poor. One of the things it highlighted was how many poor were unable to bargain shop like so many of us, due to transportation issues, disabilities, etc. So what I did was do the majority of my shopping without coupons and at the store closest by my house(which is no where cheap like Walmart or Dillons) I think if I did it my usual way, we could have done the week for $50.
The kids had plenty to eat and we had variety(minus all that blessed turkey I insisted on finishing off). My husband did complain about me only furnishing 3 12 packs of Coke for the week(normally its around 5) but he got over it.
