Tackling a space that I always put off...

I have one side of our "gun cabinet"(it holds more books and other crapola than it does weaponry!) that is the catch all for everything.

Books, pictures, and tons of other stuff end up here. So I took it all out, sorted, and put things where they should go.

This is just a stack of studio pictures!(several years worth!)

And the after. I placed the books on the other side with books, pictures went in a storage tub to sort at a later date, manuals went in a file box and all that's left is stuff that actually belongs there!

Cheap fun

Recently, me and Baby Girl were stuck at home since Joseph took the truck to work. We had done just about every activity in the house and since it was raining outside, couldn't go outside. I remembered a shipment I got the day before that had some packing material in it. I got it out, along with some glue, markers, and construction paper and we started making pictures out of the "Cheetos"(as Baby Girl called them, lol)
She made a flower
Yea, I like to be silly too!

This kept her busy for an over an hour! Think outside the box when it comes to activities and supplies, you just might have some fun in the process also!

Menu Plan Monday

I have sort of enacted an impromptu pantry clean out. My freezers are stuffed and I want to get them cleaned out of food before they get freezer burned. Plus I need room for the holiday meats that should be going on sale in a month or so :) I only made it through my refrigerator freezer on planning my partial menu for the week. I did get 5 days of dinners so I might hold it at that with a probability of leftovers.

Breakfasts:
Cold Cereal
Oatmeal
Eggs
all served with fruit

Lunches Find your own

Dinners
Homemade chicken noodle soup, bread
Country Fried Steaks, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans
Asian Shrimp and noodles, salad
Beef stroganoff, bread, squash
Chicken cordin blue, pasta or rice, carrots

Breaking the disposable cycle

We've become such a disposable society. if it breaks, toss it and go buy a new one.
Cheaply made products don't help any either. Instead of being made to last, mass produced items wear out after a few months of use. But that's ok, just toss and replace! Not! At least, not in this house. We tend to use and use and repair and repair until there's no room for more duct tape ;). I wasn't surprised when my just a few months old broom got bent in the handle(although, I think a 12 year old boy was the main cause). so instead of placing it by the dumpster for trash day, I broke out some popcicle sticks and duct tape.

There! Almost as good as new! Now, I know it won't hold forever but it buys me a few more weeks(possibly months) of not having to toss and purchase.

Menu Plan Monday

Despite my lack of posting, I've still been menu planning. Menu planning saves my sanity. Since the Things have been in school since a couple weeks ago and Baby Girl starts tomorrow, I need to get back in my blogging habit. Plus it helps since our week is nuts(Thing 2 has soccer practice M,W,F and then games on Tues and Thurs. Then Thing 1 cheers on Monday nights, with club meetings, cheer practices, and volunteering at various times during the week)

Here's the plan for this week

Breakfast:
Muffins
Pancakes from the freezer
cold cereal
all served with fruit

Lunch: Find your own(which just applies to me since the kids eat at their schools)

Suppers
Monday- leftover pot roast with potatoes and carrots
Tuesday-Cheeseburgers and fries, with salad
Wednesday-Roasted chicken, rice, broccoli
Thursday- Taco night
Friday-Joseph, and the Things out to eat(Red Lobster all you can eat shrimp, they've been waiting forever. me and Baby Girl will prob just order a pizza)
Saturday-Pork chops, mixed veggies
Sunday-chicken and dumplings

August Declutter update

August was very busy but we still made an effort to get things decluttered. I really wanted to get more things done before the Things had to go back to school, but finding the time between practices, camps, going on outings,  and back to school stuff made getting it all done impossible. I did get a good start and even though I'm on a pause now until Baby Girl starts back the 12th, I have a list going of things to tackle.

Here's just some of the things we cleared out

I also had 2 trash bags full of clothes that were donated. Plus,  this doesn't include all the trash and recycled stuff.
